Charlie Crow and his spots
Charlie Crow lives with Mummy Crow and Gemima Crow his younger sister, in a tree house overlooking a pond in the middle of a clearing in the middle of a wood in the middle of England.

The tree is a tall scots pine. It is so tall that it towers above the other trees in the wood.

One-day Charlie woke up and didn't feel very well at all. His head hurt, his wings ached, and he had pins and needles in his toes. He really didn't feel well at all.

He climbed out of bed very slowly and then he spotted the spots in the mirror. He was covered in spots, lots and lots of bright red spots. He called urgently to Mummy Crow, who carefully looked at his spots. "Mummy what is wrong with me?" asked Charlie. Mummy Crow looked at carefully at his face, under his wings, at his legs, tongue and tummy.

"You have a virus Charlie Crow" Mummy said caringly, "you must stay in bed and rest and you will be well soon enough."

She then gave him a big hug, fluffed up his pillows and tucked him into bed. Charlie would have thought this was paradise, but today he was too poorly to enjoy it.

When Charlie was poorly Mummy made his favourite food for him, cream of carrot soup, it always made him feel better.

Within a few days of becoming spotty the spots started to slowly disappear and as the spots disappeared Charlie began to feel better.

The day Charlie spotted a new friend danny

Charlie has always liked to be high in the air, he likes to see everything that is going on around him. One day he was flying around above the wood when he noticed an animal he hadn't seen before.

The closer he flew the more he recognised the shape of the animal was that of a puppy. This puppy was spotty!

Charlie is a very clever Crow and he knew that if the puppy was spotty it must be very poorly indeed. He decided to fly down to the puppy dog and tell him that he should go home immediately. His Mummy should tuck him up in bed with a hug, a kiss and fluffed up pillows. If the puppy dogs mummy did not know the recipe for cream of carrot soup Charlie was sure he could remember most of the ingredients.

Charlie landed on the branch of a Beech tree, next to the path the puppy was wandering along.

"Hello" cawed Charlie Crow, "how do you do?" "Very well, thank you," said the polite puppy as he scampered on down the path. "My name is Charlie Crow, what's yours?" "My name is Danny what kind of a bird are you?" Charlie Crow had to fly quickly to keep up with Danny. "He's very fit for someone who is so poorly" thought Charlie Crow. He knew his new friend was very ill because there were lots and lots of spots and they were all over Danny's body. They were very big and very black.

Charlie Crow was very concerned and decided that he must tell Danny just how poory he was and take him home to his mummy.

"I'm a Crow," replied Charlie Crow in answer to Danny's question. "I wonder, do you feel poorly?"

"No I feel very well indeed, thank you" Danny replied as he skipped along the path.

"Excuse me Danny, but I think you may be poorly and need to go home. You need to go to bed urgently, you have a virus." Charlie told the puppy breathlessly.

"I feel perfectly fine" replied Danny, "what do you think is wrong with me?" his quick trotting pace started to slow when he looked at Charlie. He began to feel uneasy, he could see from Charlie's face that the little Crow was very concerned.

"Well", started Charlie, trying hard to explain very carefully to Danny, "You have a virus."

"What's a virus" Danny stopped still now "is it dangerous" "I had one once" Charlie's spoke in a grown-up way, "it was slightly different from your virus though." "How was it different" Danny was very worried now, what if his virus was more serious than Charlie's.

"My spots were red not black like yours and they were nowhere near as big"

Charlie looked with wide open eyes at Danny's big black spots. Danny looked at Charlie for a few seconds and then he started to giggle. The giggle turned into a chuckle and the chuckle turned into a roar of laughter.

He laughed so much that he fell over and rolled onto the ground, his legs kicking up into the air.

"Charlie Crow I'm a Dalmatian and Dalmatians are always spotty" It took Danny awhile to say this because he couldn't stop laughing. Charlie felt very silly but how was he to know that Dalmatians are always spotty.

His new friend Danny saw that Charlie Crow was feeling very silly.

Danny explained that he wasn't laughing at Charlie Crow, in fact, Danny thought Charlie was very kind to be so concerned.

Charlie slowly realised how funny his mistake had been and he began to laugh too.

When they had both laughed so much that they had to stop because they were exhausted Danny and Charlie Crow sat on the grassy bank at the side of the path overlooking the pond and talked and talked.
Charlie Crow and Spike the kitten
Charlie Crow woke up one morning and popped his head out of his window high up above the ground, Charlie looked down at the other forest creatures already hard at work or at play, “Oh my” he said “I must have slept in”, so he quickly got dressed and set of to find an adventure.

As Charlie flew around he noticed a small, black, moving shape in a tree and thinking it might be another crow he flew to investigate, he was a very curious little crow. As Charlie Crow flew closer he heard that the little shape was crying and shouting for help “Help Meeeeow, help Meeeeow” so he swooped down and landed on a branch next to the shape.

“Are you alright” said Charlie “No” said what looked to Charlie like a ball of fluff with legs “I’m stuck up this tree”, “How did you get up here? And what are you ?” asked Charlie, “I’m a cat” said the cat, “No you're not” said Charlie “Cats are big and scary and very dangerous to crows, you don’t look dangerous to anyone”, “Well I’m still young” said the young cat, “That means you're a kitten then” said Charlie, “OK I’m a kitten” said the kitten “But soon I’ll grow up and be a big tom cat like my daddy”.

“So how did you get stuck up this tree ?” asked Charlie, “I climbed up but I can’t climb back down” replied Spike, “Why not ?” asked Charlie, “Because my claws won’t work if I face downwards” Spike replied, “Well if you promise to grow up into a nice friendly cat I’ll give you a lift down” said Charlie with a serious look in his eyes, “Oh please, I promise I’ll always be good”.

So Charlie Crow flew off the branch and after telling Spike to hold on to his legs, flew gently down to the ground. “Oh thank you, thank you, I’d better get home so my Mummy isn’t worried, but I hope I’ll see you around” said Spike then began to run off up the hill to his home. Charlie waved goodbye to his new friend then flew home himself to tell his mummy about his latest adventure.
Charlie Crow saves Sam Straw
One of Charlie Crows best friends is Sam Straw the Scarecrow, this may seem a little strange as scarecrows are supposed to scare crows away, but Sam doesn’t enjoy doing this and Charlie is an exceptionally brave crow so they became good friends.

The two friends enjoy talking about their adventures, Charlie tells Sam about the winds and all things to do with the sky and Sam tells Charlie about his adventures on his walks through the country side.

One day as Charlie Crow was flying over the Wide Lake he thought he would visit Sam to see how he was doing. As Charlie flew closer to the Lower Field he looked for Sam in his usual place but couldn’t see him anywhere, “ That’s unusual” thought Charlie, “Sam never leaves his field unattended in the day”, so he began to search all over the field for his friend.

Charlie looked by the hedges, in between the crops and even round the barns and the farmhouse but he couldn’t see Sam anywhere.

Just as he was giving up hope of finding his friend Charlie heard a voice crying “Charlie, Charlie help me, I’m up here in the Oak Tree”, Charlie Crow peered up through the leaves and sure enough there was Sam lying flat against one of the branches trying to keep his balance so as not to fall off.

“Sam ?, I never thought of you as the tree climbing type” said Charlie, “I’m not” came the reply “The North Wind blew past at such a speed this morning that I got blown up into this tree, will you help me get down ?”, “Of course I will Sam” and without another word Charlie set off for the Farmhouse to get a ladder and within no time Sam was back to his rightful1 place in the field.

“Thank you Charlie Crow” said Sam once he’d calmed down after his ordeal, “I think I would have been stuck up that tree till it fell down if you hadn’t have saved me”, then the two friends settled down and talked late into the afternoon of their adventure that day.
Charlie Crow and the North Wind
Charlie woke up and popped his head out of the window of his tree house to see which way the wind was blowing.

Today the wind was from the North, it was strong and cold.

Charlie opened his front door and launched himself into the air, up he flew and then he saw the billowing clouds that came with the North Wind.

“Whossshhhhello hello Charlie Crowwwhhhoooossssshhhh” said the North Wind in a voice that gave Charlie goose bumps and reminded him of Winter mornings.

“Whosssshhhhh do you want to ride in my cloud with me on this fine breezy morning ?sssssshhhhooooohhhwwww”, “Oh yes please” said Charlie because he was a very polite Crow indeed and riding clouds was one of his favourite things, “Whhhooooshhh Whoosshhhhhhop on board then” said the North Wind and puffed up some clouds for Charlie to sit on.

No sooner had Charlie Crow sat down than the cloud was rushing through the air at an amazing speed, they flew through Crow Forest and out over wide wide lake going so low as to skim the water, they flew on over Gorse Bank and the Lower Field where Charlie waved to his friend Sam, then the North Wind gathered all his energy and spun the cloud around to head for the Bright Woods, they circled the church then they flew through the village where Charlie waved at his friend Danny the Dalmatian.

When they reached Charlies house again the North Wind dropped him off on the ground then shot off again waving and shouting over his shoulder “Whhhoooooossssorry Charlie Crow but there are leaves for me to blowwwwww about and umbrellas to turn inside out, goodbyeeeeeeewwhhoooosshhh”, “Goodbye, come back soon” was the answer Charlie Crow shouted as the North Wind blew away over the trees.
